The Poet and the Football Star
It can be seen on television frequently, the act of a parent backup vicariously through their children. It can be seen in original life at a childs baseball game or soccer game, as a parent argues with the referee that their son or daughter was not out of boundary or that the s pull throughg was not a strike. It can be seen, perhaps with even more intensity, in a in high spirits school setting where the star quarterback is under so much pressure for perfection from his father, that when the team doesnt win the homecoming game he is guilty of doing so on purpose to stop the violence of tension, arguing and misery at home. Pressure to be perfect often creates rebellion in a child because no one can be perfect and a child wants to be just that, a child. Subconsciously they ache for normalcy and something ordinary instead of the unvarying running around and game subsequently game, competition after competition, and spotlight after spotlight. It can also drive parents and children aside and leave the child wondering whose dream it was to begin with, and the questioning begins. Who am I? What do I want? Where do I belong? Often times, this parental scrutiny carries on through adulthood and leaves damaging scars on a soulfulnesss entire life.
