In the beginning, the briny character sold her horse, cricket, and her mule, saucy. In hopes of them having a better feeling and it would make it much easier on her as well. Although, Cricket and Sassy had been in her wedding and had always been her favorite animals it seemed like the right thing to do. Then she received a notification in the mail that the rafter bounced. It had to be a sign to infract off the deal and keep the horses. If she didnt make up a connection with these animals she might not have started to realize what these signs meant.
Overall, she had to be connected to these animals to get an uneasy feeling about exchange them, even though she thought it was the right thing to do she wanted them back. She then asks how Cricket and Sassy are doing and gets the reply, Great! nothing more, wishing she had said more.
Its important to realize that she wants to know how they are doing in great detail because she misses them and wants them back.
Consequently, if she wasnt so connected to these animals she would neer made the decision to want them back. She might not have read the signs telling her to get them back. For example in paragraphs 13 and 14 she finds the phone number of the bank but the be are blurred, its hard not to take that as a message from above.
