The Trayvon Martin Case, the Media & the Stand Your Ground Laws

When is it acceptable to use deadly aim? Currently at least twenty of the fifty states in America save laws which grant souls immunity from prosecution in deadly force cases when they can rationally claim self-defence. Commonly referred to as single-foot your ground laws, most of these states identify this rational claim of self-defense as acceptable when an individual is in fear of his/her life story or the life of anformer(a). So how do we (society) determine if an individual who use deadly force in self-defense is in truth in fear for their life?
This issue is an extremely debatable topic in todays media, given the shooter death of a 14 year old Afro-American boy, Trayvon Marton. Trayvon was fatally shot in the chest on February 26th, 2012 by a 28 year old crime-watch volunteer, George Zimmerman. According to Mr. Zimmerman, Mr, Martin punched him and bashed his notch on the ground as they fought. According Mr. Martins 16 year old girlfriend (on the cell phone with him at the time) Trayvon was pulling up his hood and moving away from Zimmerman. What is clear, match to witnesses, is that there were two cries for help followed by two heavy weapon shots.

Some of the media has reported that Zimmerman had a history of racism, and suggests his actions were racially motivated, other media reports Zimmerman not as racist, but as an upstanding constituent of the community. However, the media also portrays two sides to Mr. Marton (1) an above average student, with excellent manners, and evermore there to help others, and (2) as a student who was suspend for possessing a bag containing marijuana residue, as well as suspensions for graffiti and truancy. Does either side of the medias representation of Mr. Zimmerman or Mr. Marton offer enough information to make a finale regarding whether or not the use of deadly force was justify?
