ECE: Child Development

For this research paper I chose to discuss the stages of development for a pre-school age child. I chose this age because I teach pre-school and I love this age root word. First, I will be defining the developmental characteristics of this age group and include three age appropriate activities that will leaven their cognitive, motor, social, emotional, and language development. Next, I will discuss why and how these activities conjure development. Then, I will include some strategies a teacher or parent can use to promote these skills. In conclusion of this paper I will throw away a better understanding of a pre-school age childs overall development.
A child that is between two to sixsome years old is referred to as the pre-school or the early childhood years. Children are experiencing so many different things at this age. Their heyday and weight is changing dramatically. By the time they are five, the mind-set has reached 90% of its adult weight, even though the body of a five year old is barely one thirdly of what it will be as an adult (Tanner, 1989). Their motor skills develop, all day they become stronger, faster and more coordinated. They have a lot more small muscle control.
Their language improves a great deal so that they are able to have conversations with others. They ask a lot of questions, including how and why. They are very searching and eager to visualize. They have very active imaginations and love to misrepresent play. Increased physical and cognitive capabilities enable children to emerge from full dependence on caregivers to become part of the broader world removed the family (Rathus, 2011 pg. 133). Pre-school children need a warm, loving, nurturing environment where they can feel safe, learn and develop their skills.
