Monique Katz Family Fashion History Circumstances shape us as individuals: who we are, where weve been, and where we are going. As personal style is an expression of self, it is no surprise that circumstances play a role influencing this expression. My familys fashion history is dependent on their circumstances. Therefore where they devolve on the fashion curve is circumstantial. Although my family exposit themselves as innovators, I believe that my family falls into the category of majority since they were non corrosion the styles when the designers first implemented these various styles. However their unique utilisation of fashion does seem to set them apart from the majority. Our circumstances whether religious, cultural, economical, or professional have an impact on what we choose to wear. The nine photos may not be fashionable according to their dates versus print texts; however, the circumstances give reason to my families fashion rhyme. The first word-painting was taken of my mothers grandparents in what she first described as the very early 1900s. When I confronted her that the styles did not admit this time period she concluded that it could have been the 1940s instead, conduct me to believe that she is not a fashion expert.

My great grandparents Modesta and Jose, are the male and female seen in this photograph. When asked where she would place her grandmother on the fashion cycle curve in my interview with Carmen Katz she replied that she would be considered an innovator because she was a dressmaker and made clothes. This is where I would disagree because I do not have an direct date of this photograph. I would have to say that Modesta was fashionable, however she was not an innovator yet was with the majority of women for war-time fashions. According to Valerie Steele, author of fifty dollar bill Years of Fashion, War time fashions of the 1940s had broad shoulders and defraud skirts qualifying Modesta would be right on the curve with the majority....
