Gender Displays In Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls is a television taper focusing on the lives of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, a mother and daughter in a small town. Along with these two main characters Luke the indigenous male character in the show and an off and on love interest for Lorelai who art objectages to make himself play a zippy role in both of their lives. Rory starts the show as a freshman in high school getting realise to transfer to a respected private school. The series revolves just about both Rorys and Lorelai relationships and major life events. It is through these events and relationships that elements of grammatical sexual activity are displayed providing another source of cultural influence that helps occur the gender roles as we have them today. In this paper I pull up stakes overview the three characters of Lorelai, Rory and Luke and how they meet/resist traditional gender expectations and ideal standards. As with most things regarding gender I will split this in to dismantles focusing on maleness and femininity. Luke will be covered in the first part covering masculinity and Rory and Lorelai will be covered together in the second portion covering femininity and their differences in development.

Luke plays the role of the blue collar working class man, as a restaurant owner he is present to move often with Lorelai and Rory thus he has several opportunities to display his man hood to Lorelai and the few women that he encounters throughout the series. Luke demonstrates the majority of the characteristics of the hegemonic mannish male and often times his actions and ideas are used in direct comparison to other characters on the show.
